Movie conventions research: Saw X

Image
. Saw X is a unique installment in the horror genre. Camera angles and movements include high angle shots as a lot of scenes are in the perspective of a security camera. Also eye level shots are used to portray the fear of Jigsaw's victims in the detailed deadly contraptions he calls his "traps".  Zooming in and medium close up shots are also used. Costumes and props are the iconic jigsaw puppet and tricycle, and editing and sound include mostly diegetic sound. . I like the eye level shots that showcase the panic and emotions of some of the characters. Simple and innocent concepts like puppets and tricycles are also morphed into a very terrifying villain that imposes extreme fear into Jigsaw's victims. Lastly, I like how diegetic sound from the traps and surrounding environment. . I dislike the use of the security cameras being used for the perspective, and the high angle shots. The only reason being it would be extremely difficult to replicate for use in my project

Movie conventions Research: BrightBurn

Image
The movie uses nondiegetic audio such as horror themes, these are used to create suspense and fear. They make the villain "Brightburn" use a mask to hide his identity and to create more fear out of his victims. Over the shoulder shots are used with the villain to display the victims reactions to the villain attacking/revealing themselves. I liked the use over the should shots since it further emphasized the helplessness that the victims felt. I felt sometimes they used too many of the same camera angels during the movie which kind of made the scenes seem the same or repetitive.

Movie conventions research: Cocaine Bear

Image
The camera angle in the movie appealed to me. They had a great use of camera angle that intensified what was happening in the scene and properly showed the bear as a true threat. The movie uses eye level shots to shot the fear in the characters face and wide shots to show the environment around them and show the size of the bear. The movie also shows the bear at multiple low angle shots to create fear into the audience.  We'll probably end up using the camera angles in the same way as in the movie to show the slasher as an intimidating threat. In some parts the movie creates tension in a compelling way and has an interesting premise. The rest of the movie didn't take itself serious and ruined most moments due to it being a horror/comedy. The overall plot of the story was boring and failed to show the bear as an antagonist that strikes fear into people other than killing a person and occasionally appearing out of nowhere and shocking the characters in the movie and the audience.

Genre research: Horror

Image
Horror is a genre of fiction that is intended to disturb or frighten the audience. Horror is often divided into the sub-genres of psychological horror and supernatural horror, which are in the realm of speculative fiction. Horror intends to create an eerie and frightening atmosphere for the reader. Often the central menace of a work of horror fiction can be interpreted as a metaphor for larger fears of a society. There are many horror movies in the movie industry such as Friday the 13th which has placed its mark in pop culture. They often will use low angle shots to represent a character fleeing with a character in pursuit or a Dutch angle to show the horror character before the person runs. They often use items like machetes, have dark uniforms, masks, fake blood, and other things to make the film more scary. They often add Diegetic sounds like screaming, yelling, and nondiegetic scary music to further add to suspense and fear. I enjoy being scared by a good horror movie with a good

Genre research: Thriller

Image
Thriller/suspense genre is a type of literature and film that creates suspense, excitement, and anxiety. The genre is well-suited to film and television mainly. It generally keeps its audience on the “edge of their seats” as the plot builds towards a climax. Thrillers are often villain-driven plots, whereby they present obstacles that the protagonist or hero must overcome. Low angle shots are used a lot to emphasize difference in characters power and so are High angle shots to emphasize powerlessness. They use zoom a lot to zoom into characters who are displaying a lot of emotion or tilt to emphasize anxiousness. They will use things like slowdowns or speedups that are edited in to create suspense. Thriller films often use masks to hide characters and their emotions, mirrors to show a person and often represent their emotions, and letters. They will add in non-diegetic suspenseful music to make the situation seem a lot more dire. I enjoy how story driven and sinister the movies can be

Genre research: comedy

Image
Comedy is a movie genre that is intended to make audiences laugh and amuse them. Comedy films are designed to be funny and entertaining. These films can take many forms, including stand-up comedy, sketch comedy, sitcoms, and comedic films. The comedy genre is defined by events that are intended to make someone laugh. It doesn't matter if the story is macabre, droll, or zany. They use camera angels like, wide shots, medium shots, then they use things like The push, this is used to really display a characters comedic reaction. They will usually wear goofy outfits like clown suits, props that are wiggly and sound funny like an airhorn. They will edit peoples faces or bodily features to look wonky and out of proportion. They will often add in Non-Diegetic sounds like laugh tracks to make the film seem funnier. I like the humor and that I usually don't have to take it serious. Sometimes when humor is used incorrectly it can make the film corny and not likeable.

Genre research: final decision

Image
We decided on a horror genre for the final decision. The movie opening will be a horror sequence with a classic mass murderer driven by an unknown motive to kill an innocent bystander. We decided on this genre because we have many thoughts and ideas on how we would implement it into the start of a movie. Out of all the other genres, this would be the best and easiest to make. I love horror films and am very excited to be able to make a horror opening. Making a good horror opening will be very hard, especially with the limited time we have to work with. Creating a movie that evokes fear and disturb the audience will be a challenge but a fun one.

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch A: A person chilling in their house listening to some music and making food, until they spot a person in their backyard. He gets in and tries to kill him, they run to the forest and the guy gets tricked and bleeds out. Pitch B: Two robbers break into a person's house, not knowing that they're a psychopath and plans to brutally murder them. Discuss pitch A: I would be interested in making this film opening because it seems like a simple yet effective opening to a film. This was the first scene that I thought of when I heard we had to make a film opening. I have many ideas on how this scene could go with multiple alternatives. I already know of some places we could film this and how we would go about it. I think this would be a great way to open a horror movie and I would love to film this idea. Discuss pitch B: I would be interested in making this film opening because it would be a interesting and unique way to open to a horror movie. This is a scene that I had put a littl

Group Blog

For the movie opening I will be working with my dear friends Jayden, Daniel, and Mario. We all chose to work together because we worked together on the music video and did so well together, we decided to do the movie intro as a group. Daniel will probably help with pitches for the movie and probably the editing afterwards. Jayden will work with the planning, help do the drawing for the storyboard, and help acting in the movie. Mario will help set up for filming and pitch ideas. Lastly, I will help with the camera angles and acting in some parts. We will all work on the writing of the film and gathering props for the movie. We will be making a movie opening on probably a horror genre . We will have to watch many horror movie openings to settle for how we will make ours. I love watching horror movies and horror related things . I will try to be as involved with this project as possible and hopefully have my name as the director . We already have quite a few ideas on where this project

Hi, My name is Myles and this is an introduction about me. I am 16 years old, turned 16 on September 15th. I am a 10th grader at Fort Lauderdale High school. I not only do soccer, but I also draw a bit on my own time and do martial arts. Despite my love for physical activities it is hard for me because of my genetics, so I workout to gain weight. I'm 5'6 and 97 pounds, but my stamina is insane and my technique is honed to perfection. I sometimes work at my dad's job as a piano technician. I love doing mentally challenging this such as puzzles, escape rooms, and chess. Despite all of this I am incredibly lazy and struggle with turning my work in on time, not because it's hard but because I would rather relax and mess around. I also love to cook and make meals for mostly myself but sometimes my siblings. My favorite food is probably tacos since there are many different combinations and ways to make them. I enjoy watching anime and playing games on my free time although I
